Do This Before SPRINGing into Action
Happy Spring! Lovely to see light outside at dinner time. Sunlight makes a huge difference to me and I’m glad to have completed a long move for more of it. The move is a metaphor, that my family and I answered the call of the heart and worked our butt off to manifest it.
Colorado represents the essence of light, resonance, and abundance for me. These qualities are what many of us seek. We longed to see, to feel ourselves, know what we really think of things, and to have a safe, plentiful home. The tumultuous world and our busy lives have asked us to adapt and evolve every day. It brushes against our inner landscape: a frazzled consciousness that dares to hope for the better.
We are teetering between I’m resilient and I’m losing my sh*t.
As empaths, healers, and advocates, we strive. We say ok, I’ll suck it up, focus on the positive, and stretch once more. Resilience is a good thing. It really is.
Until we are tired. It is courage-fatigue.
The Spring Equinox took place a week ago and the sun is now in initiating, fiery, and direct Aries, the first zodiac sign. Aries is all about courage and action, and this is where I got stuck. I didn’t know I was depleted until I attempted to write this post 10 days ago. I had nothing to say. As moon in Aries person, I nurture by showing people how to assert and advocate for themselves; I draw out their mojo. On the shadow side, when triggered I take swift actions, sometimes too many at once. This creates angst for me and those near me.
I tried to come up with an elegant perspective on courage-fatigue but it’s the same old:
- Fill our wells first so we can help others.
- Sometimes self-care is wu-wei, non-doing
- When we feel the essence of what we desire, we are abundant.
- When we better our lives, others’ will improve
So I stopped fighting like a moon in Aries and surrendered (Pisces energy, we are still in that endings period). I vegged in front of Hallmark channels. I asked the guides who I am as a world server. The answer came when I was silent: whatever I do, it has a healing theme. Even when I assist someone with her resume, because it enables her to take care of herself, which is restorative.
Here are suggestions for self-care. Do 5+ items over a weekend (your own mini-retreat) or one thing each day in the next 10 days. It’s exhilarating to shift the energy from an ongoing rut. Your sense of fun will feed the inner child, your source of joy.
For 15 minutes:
- Free writing by hand
- Draw with crayons using non-dominant hand
- Play a musical instrument, maybe along a favorite band
- Take a walk during lunchtime
- Listen to birds in your neighborhood or a park
- Call, email, or write a note to a loved one
For 60+ minutes:
- Epsom salt baths with lavender and/or rose oils
- Join and attend a group that meets about a topic of interest
- Read a book you love
- Make a meal you crave and eat it outside, phone-free
- What else?
It doesn’t have to be fancy. Accept where you are now and it’s okay to say things suck. I’m all for being positive and rah-rah, but self-compassion and surrender is the yin to the yang of courage.
April 1 marks the new moon in Aries. This is a great starting point if you, like me, had missed January 1. There is time to rest, inner-compost, until the moon is visible in the night sky (~4/4/22. See numerology of 4, 22).
Crossing the gate of Pisces, the last sign that represents the dissolution of the ego, to re-form our ego is necessary. We need our ego, the Aries energy, to set boundaries, assert our existence. Problems arise only when the ego go awry.
Who would you like to be this year? What is your life’s work about? Name your topic 5 values for 2022. What would mean the most to you?
Consider master coach Michael Bungay Stanier’s framework on worthy goals. They are 1) thrilling, 2) important, and 3) daunting. The last quality intrigues me!
Please do your best to let go and rest, then activate your Aries inner fire to set things in motion. It will work much better.
