Force of Nature: Returning to the Self

Force of Nature: Returning to the Self

[6.22.24] During a windstorm in April, the bottom of our 40 ft aspen slowly rose from the ground as a neighbor shouted from his yard. Our house is in a dense cul-de-sac and the fall of this tree, the tallest in a cluster of 3, was caught by a pine nearby. Both leaned at 45 degrees on a fence. They missed another neighbor’s house by inches.

The wind hurled wildly. The remaining 2 aspens bobbed in the gray sky, threatened to drop. I called 7 tree people that Saturday and miraculously one was available. The ordeal was over in 4 hours. But the wait felt like forever.

The gusts and swirls of air were unstoppable. Without any caution, it took out the aspen, which, we later discovered, had rotting roots.

This force of nature, though destructive, is a great metaphor of our essence within. We are souls with a purpose, a mind that engages, a body which implements, and a spirit yearns to express. We are combinations of all this. Our essence, like nature, is power.

This energy needs to be honored and expressed. Or it festers and rots, turns into discontent, disengagement. It fuels anxiety. I’ve lived with this dynamic through traumas, loss, and later, healing – it’s in my natal chart. My fire-y nature has to be channeled, otherwise it burns everywhere, in relationships, work, and at times, my body. (See my memoir for the whole story).

To return to the Self, I invite you to reflect, recall:

  • What is your nature? What is always important to you? What do you want to come back to?
  • What makes you come alive?
  • What do people come to you for (aside from a job assignment)?
  • What makes you joyful? What brought happiness when you were a child?
  • What is your wildest dream?
  • What difference, big or small, do you want to make in the world?

As we enter Summer Solstice on June 20 in the N Hemisphere, the sun moves to Cancer, the emotionally sensitive, nurturing sign of the mother, home, and memory.

Then the next day we are blessed with a Capricorn full moon (pragmatism, ambition, long term vision, father energy). A time of completion, illumination, and release – consider what you have accomplished and celebrate all wins.

  • What in your life is festering?
  • What’s something in life that used to be an anchor but now a deadweight?
  • How can you use your strengths to create the life you want in the next 6 months? Next 12 months? (suggested list of strengths; CliftonStrengths assessment)

Summer vibe supports personal and professional growth. It is the time to awaken our essential energy, step up, thrive, and serve. There is also planetary support for breakthrough and expansion.

At my home, losing 4 trees gave room to fruit trees, flowers, and veggies. There is bright vibrancy and potentiality in place of dark and buggy. A great trade.

Work with me to clear your energy, explore your essence and have accountability to change your life. I now include energy healing and astrology in career & life coaching — clients feel seen/heard, excited to tackle blocks and get unstuck!

May we thrive and happy Solstice,

Sue
